ORANGE, Calif. — Village Nurseries Wholesale, an Orange County-based grower for landscape professionals, is hosting the first annual “Horticultural Encounter” May 11-29, 2015 at its Huntington Beach, Calif. growing grounds and landscape center.
Offered by appointment only, landscape architects, designers, and design/build contractors will learn about plants best suited for today's landscape situations. Landscapers will learn about these specific areas: Arbor Harbor, Bioswale Beach, Clay Corner, Drought-Tolerant Discovery, Grassy Grove, Perennial Plains, Pollination Station, Salt Lover's Leap, Screen Scene and Succulent Safari.
Attendees will be able to observe plant pairings of contrasting colors, forms and sizes that affect designs, styles and landscape themes. Also included will be plant solutions for demanding landscapes such as reclaimed irrigation and clay soil sensitivity as well as ideas for landscape functions such as screens, pollinator gardens and bio-retention zones.
“When it comes to various landscape situations, we tend to turn to familiar plant palettes,” said Suzie Wiest, the company's regional marketing representative and new products chair. “Being able to see and touch an expanded line of plants in groupings by usage helps us add to those palettes — we can draw on them when confronted with demanding situations, such as needing a plant for a dry shade area, a bioswale, or seaside garden,” she explained.
