With fields of Blazing Stars, Marsh Milkweeds, Indian Grass, and more, Agrecol Native Nursery doesn't look like your typical perennial nursery. A native prairie is what Agrecol Native Nursery excels in and that will be on display at the 2015 WNLA Summer Field Day and Trade Show, presented by the Wisconsin Nursery and Landscape Association (WNLA) for green industry professionals, hosted by Agrecol. The event will be held Thursday, Aug. 13 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will feature field tours, educational presentations, a trade show and the annual WNLA Scholarship, Education and Research Fund Auction.
Agrecol is located just south of Madison in Evansville, Wis., and produces native seed and plants and specialty erosion control systems. Educational sessions and tours will take place, and the afternoon will feature the popular Scholarship, Education and Research Fund Auction, plus exhibitors will showcase the latest in the green industry, along with their Day-of-Show specials. Practice your bean bag tossing skills to increase your chances to win the raffle prize. For the sixth year in a row, Midwest Stihl is donating a fantastic raffle prize for the lucky holder of the winning ticket. Proceeds from the raffle and the auction support WNLA scholarships, educational programs and research projects.
Agrecol is involved in research and development of renewable fuels, such as pelletizing switchgrass and other native plants to produce fuel to support manufacturing and to heat homes and businesses. In fact, after cleaning the seed, their native straw and stem plant material is converted into pellets on site and used to heat their farm buildings. Agrecol has more than 200 native local ecotype species available for creating diverse plant communities for conservation, biodiversity and education and has been in business since 1991.
WNLA serves as a state-wide association of nursery and landscape businesses and professionals. WNLA is a member association of the Wisconsin Green Industry Federation. Besides its annual Summer Field Day and Trade Show, WNLA hosts a Winter Workshop, an annual scholarship and education golf outing, and is a Premier Sponsor of the Wisconsin Public Television's Garden Expo in Madison, Wis. WNLA and WGIF provide legislative, regulatory and public relations advocacy on behalf of the state's nursery and landscape industry.
