SAVANNAH, Ga. — JCB-themed Diggerland USA, a construction-adventure park in West Berlin, N.J., will host a number of events for special needs children and their families this summer. These Special Abilities Nights at Diggerland (SAND) will offer individuals with special needs the chance to dig and drive the construction equipment rides while the park is closed to the general public. The first SAND event will take place on Friday, June 5, 2015 from 5-8 p.m.
“At JCB, we have a long and storied history of giving back to the local communities in which we operate. We are extremely proud of our involvement with Diggerland and their like-minded commitment to helping provide children with experiences they may otherwise not be able to enjoy,” said Arjun Mirdha, president and chief executive officer of JCB North America.
Special needs events at Diggerland USA are made possible by the SAMBULANCE Safety Squad, a non-profit organization with a staff of trained teachers and first responders that educate individuals with special needs about safety. Modifications will be made to the park prior to the SAND event to ensure a safe, yet fun time for the children and families in attendance.
“Hosting a special needs event at Diggerland is something we've been talking about since last summer,” said Yan Girlya, co-owner of Diggerland USA. “We've been hosting special needs events at Sahara Sam's since 2011, and we're now leveraging that experience at Diggerland.”
“By hosting these SAND events, Diggerland will be providing an amazing opportunity to children who may not otherwise have been able to enjoy an amusement park,” said Thom Peebles, JCB North America's vice president of marketing. “Diggerland's willingness to give back to their community aligns well with JCB's global commitment to community gifting, including JCB North America's support of the Lady Bamford Center for Early Childhood Education in Savannah, which provides educational opportunities for underprivileged children from six months to four years of age.”
